perched

encouraged by the early sunshine and the promise of new scenery, this morning i read (now on to howard's end) for several hours in the tiny balcony that protects the bay window in our sitting room. i don't think the space is meant for a person, except maybe a worker to wash the windows or clear the gutters; my legs were quite doubled under me to keep my comfortable wedge in the meter of space between window and stone.
but it was quite a perch, overlooking one of the busiest intersections in the city and the ever-magical castle (one view to right).
if only i could share with you the smells! the sounds! the former mostly of fried dough and subway, occasionally pizza; the latter some honks (i always find honking very funny and silly and ineffectual) and lots of sirens, as we are adjacent to the fire station.
i also spied an adorable morning ritual of a family across the road, first the couple watching the world go by out their window before the man headed off to his daily toil, and second the mother and daughter in play and rapture at the window for several hours. not sure if they noticed me back.
