yesterday i went to an upmarket bar in new town called tonic to see my friend ryan participate in a drinkmaking competition. it was a good bit of fun and moreso illuminating, as it was confirmed that there are complete worlds of edinburgh that i rarely perceive or experience. i can relate to the food-as-art seriousness well after my happy and perfection-oriented employment as a barista at the mudhouse (latte art is important), and i can see what a difference it makes - the drinks were wonderful and subtle in taste. i won't pretend i know how to hack it in this world aside from that sitting and looking pretty/attentive part, but it was certainly a funny and interesting way to spend an afternoon. check out my latest cheesy video:
the drink is one of ryan's creation, called ketel brush (after its vodka ingredient, ketel one, and revision on existing drink basil brush, which is a martini with basil, strawberries, currant vodka and black raspberry liqueur)
