thursday (eep)

success! i have extricated myself from my flat and managed to fit all of my things into my bags - they are stuffed to the brim, and i have one shoulder bag packed that i didn't initially come with, but otherwise i managed. turns out it is vastly vastly more inexpensive to just check in an additional bag on your flight then to ship it (like 70 us dollars vs 155 pounds) so that is my plan. my bags will probably be overweight as well but it should still be more cost effective in the end to just incur charges. i cannot bring myself to throw away books that i have read and spent money on and value. maybe someday i'll build a hut out of them to live in or rent out or something.
i had a very high success rate in giving other things away, however, like duvets to the salvation army, and i think i left the flat in a good state for its final check. i closed my bank account this morning, and i'm even writing from a computer lab - i have been uprooted! already i have ridden the bus three times into the city centre for its half-hour-long ride from my temporary abode in the suburb of colintion. one would cringe to see my bags taking up half of andrew's living room, being lived out of. i am trying to not think too hard about the passing of these precious few days.
i had a look at andrew's pictures from our trip last night and some of them are really good, so hopefully i can get the whole lot organized and ready for consumption tomorrow.
meanwhile, today i am meeting julia for a coffee date (i have a slew of these, finalizing, in the next few days) then heading out to dinner and cocktails with my coworkers. it should be a fun evening, i am quite fond of them.
the rest of time until monday seems to be filling quickly up with small things, people, events, dinners, etc. all i really want to do before i go, aside from follow this social flow, is go out dancing and take pictures of the city in the sunlight and visit my favorite cafes one last time.

edit: p.s. an email just received on my grad school application, yay:
Sarah:We have everything we need. I know that you've been worried about how the grading strike (!) will affect your application, but I don't think that it will be a big problem. The most important element for us is your writing, and your recommendations will be strong. We will know enough about your work here to make a decision. We should be able to let you know in a couple of weeks.Best,John O'Brien
