okay, so as much as i love this place, the university here is incredibly disorganized about the majority of things. and usually i've been able to navigate my own way around the chaos, but this morning it actually got me and i am incredibly frustrated. according to the visiting student website and to this online feature which generates your semester timetable for you, my literature class was scheduled to occur on thursdays from 9-11. i emailed my professor this morning because the class meeting place wasn't posted absolutely anywhere that i could see (turns out you are supposed to check the department office board for that information, really glad someone informed me about that) and she writes back telling me that the class was actually this morning, that she sent out an email about it to everyone (clearly never got that one, so apparently i'm not on the roster either) and that the information was posted correctly online. after some sleuthing it seems the english literature webpage does say tuesday, even though all other places say thursday. SHEESH. why can't they just have one course offering directory listing all the courses and their times and meeting places like we do back home?!
so, great. i've missed my first literature seminar. i mean, this is the most important thing i am doing in my studying over here this semester, this one class. but apparently i am quite lose-able in the sea of bureaucracy.
sigh. not too great of a start. at least i got a letter today from my newlywed grandma: "Starting a new life is exciting, for as long as we can. You will, too."
