in the past five days there have been three break-ins to flats in my building, two of which included the theft of laptops, thousands of pounds, and mobile phones from individual rooms while a resident of the flat was there taking a shower, with the doors to the rooms left open/unlocked. i don't know who these thieves are or how they are timing their acts so well and so knowingly (or just luckily perhaps), but it is certainly a little frightening. i always lock my room whenever i go anywhere, but this morning, because i was the only one in the flat, i actually locked my room while i took a shower. i think it should be fine, as long as continue to obsessively lock my door, but it will be slightly unnerving to be here in the flat for like 3 weeks while the rest of everyone has gone home for the holidays.
edinburgh is otherwise incredibly charming of late. they have lit up the entire city for the christmas season so beautifully; i got an email today promising me i'd get the digital camera i ordered online by 1pm tomorrow, so pictures will ensue.
today marked the end of classes and the beginning of what they here call "revision," which basically means studying for exams/writing papers. i am very much looking forward to my classes next semester, and i think it will be overall more interesting and challenging to me, but i am sad to see my literature class go, even if it was far too often the "ms. d'adamo show" as my teacher pointed out today (sigh, what's a girl to do when everyone else won't engage?). it is also quite strange that several of my friends here will be leaving in a few weeks, as they only were studying abroad for a semester. sort of exciting in a way, an opportunity to meet a whole new wave of people and already have some good things established as well.
lastly, in regards to comments, i adore receiving them from my apparent readers, but it is quite disappointing when they are left anonymously. please sign your name so i can know who you are! thanks kindly.
