i won't write my usual novella of a post, because i am very sleepy, but there are a couple of pieces of information worth publishing on the world wide web before i rest.
first things first, i've recently created a website to host any photos i take of my life and times while abroad. in past online photo sites, i've ended up posting a lot of really uninteresting photos, so i'm going to try to avoid that. check it out, i am open to feedback. i will also add the link to my list of websites to the left for future perusal.
speaking of, the reason that i am so sleepy can be found illustrated in that very website, as this morning i woke up at 5:30am to climb arthur's seat, the dormant volcano that the city of edinburgh was built up surrounding, to watch the sunrise. i went with two other american visiting students from my flat building, andrew from swarthmore/oregon and chance from georgetown/kentucky; it was sort of miserable with the trek, the wind, and the cold, but it was quite worth it. it was crazy and memorable and surreally beautiful, and we couldn't have asked for a clearer sky from edinburgh to welcome our enterprise.
also, i got a job today! i will be working as a waitress in a very cozy and nice restaurant called mp's bistro in the parliament house hotel. it is quite an ideal situation, with a few 5-hour evening shifts throughout the week, perhaps a breakfast shift on the weekend, and only a short walk to get there. i am excited and i don't think it will interfere with my other plans for travel and school and socializing, but we shall see. 4.85 pounds an hour plus (measly) tips is certainly not bad for spending money. the routine of edinburgh happily continues to take shape.
last bit of news, my classes are finally set. i will be resigning myself to only two english literature courses total throughout the year, because the bureaucratic red tape persists, so next semester i am taking an architectural history course (from revivalism to modernism. sounds interesting, no?) and a course in the school of divinity called "the masters of suspicion" in which we study feuerbach, ricoeur, freud, nietzsche and marx and their critiques of and alternatives to the religious worldview. heavy stuff, but i think it sounds pretty fun. so, no more back and forths, now i am just doing it.
i have so many emails to write. i wish this blog eliminated my anxiety over corresponding with individuals, but it doesn't. if you think i should be writing you emails, i probably am also aware that i should, and i swear i will do it. for now, i must go to bed, and start my day early with tasks like writing you emails and doing homework.
love and adieu-
